Sifu John Velez
Sifu John Velez began his martial art studies at the age of eleven, with Western Boxing. At the age of eighteen he was introduced to Master Pedro Cepero Yee and the style of Tang Fong Hung Ga. At present he is an assistant instructor at Yee’s Hung Ga International Kung Fu Association’s Clifton, NJ branch and has become one of Master Pedro Cepero Yee’s “Jo Gow” Level (Black Belt) Yup Sut (Inner Room) disciples. Sifu Velez is a familiar face at the Annual New York Chinatown New Year Parades, where he can be seen each year performing lion dance and kung fu demonstrations. He competed in tournaments nationally in hand forms, weapons, and fighting. He has also studied Shuai Jiao under his Si Hing, Sifu James Peterson. Sifu Velez has established the Kearny, New Jersey Branch of Yee’s Hung Ga International Kung Fu Association.
