Sifu Sean A. McKelven
Sean A. McKelven started training extensively in the Hung Ga system in August 1996; under the tutelage of John Stacy Adams, 1st student of Master Pedro Cepero Yee. In a quest to reach his body's potential beyond that of his gymnastics background, he trained privately under Stacy Adams for 5 years. Determined to hold on to his dream, he maintained the group of practitioners left to him by Stacy Adams for the next 2 years. In desperation he sought out the guidance of Master Pedro Cepero Yee as suggested by his original instructor in November of 2003. With generosity and kindness, Sean McKelven was accepted by Master Cepero Yee and began private training under him immediately. Eagerly traveling one hundred miles bi-weekly, Sean attained his instructor certification in May, 2006, reaching the Jo Gow (Black Belt) level. In an effort to bring organization and legitimacy to the Philadelphia area branch, Sean McKelven believes that the heart of the martial artist must be kind and controlled. For this reason the practitioners of this branch aid Sean in feeding and providing clothing and supplies for the homeless through The Marquita Dennis Foundation, an organization developed by Sean and his wife Zakiyyah who is also his student. By making this choice, it helps the students to examine their hearts, motives and judgments of their everyday life decisions. In this city of Brotherly Love, the Philadelphia area branch will exemplify martial virtue.
